Statement of Purpose

The Kalela Museum strives to preserve Akseli and

Jorma Gallen-Kallela’s art and lifework

1) by maintaining the Wilderness Studio and

Home where both father and son worked and

    lived with their families

2) by using this historic building as a venue for

special theme exhibitions relevant to their

    lifework

3) and by promoting the recognition and study of

their art in Finland and abroad.

Kalela is more than just a museum institution.  It is a living home where threads of private and public cultural history meet, a place where visitors can connect with the milieu, both intimate and monumental, that cradled Akseli and Jorma Gallen-Kallela’s creative work.
